This is a great reference for college students and entry level engineers. I can attest that I have this book at work and regularly reference it to perform my job as a structural analyst. I bought it right after graduating to help me prepare for the FE Exam. I wish I would have bought it my sophomore year in college because it would have been a great reference for my engineering course work. It’s also really cheap and affordable for those with a tight budget.

Aircraft Structures

An engineer gave me this book during my first few months as a structural analyst and I found it very useful. It is a great introductory level book for anyone in the aerospace and defense industry. It was published in the sixties, but is very thorough and starts from the very basics. It goes into great detail on airplane structures, inertial loading, load factors, and hand calculations. It’s super cheap and affordable. I definitely recommend it for those who have an interest in the aerospace industry.

FE Mechanical Review Manual
By Robert Juvinall and Kurt Marshek
This is a great reference for back of napkin calculations. It is a more advanced textbook, however if you planning to do any design work this is a book I would grab. I use to validate finite element analysis results. It’s always good to learn to perform calculations by hand to validate software results and this textbook provides the information to do just that.
